History of the Wedding Veil
For many brides-to-be when they first start out looking for wedding dresses they are unsure whether or not to have a veil. From my many years experience in the bridal wear industry a large proportion of ladies initially say they do not want to wear one, however it is always a good idea to try one on with your wedding gown. It may transform just another beautiful dress into a bride in a wedding dress.
So how did the wedding veil come about? There are many stories as to how it originated. Some believe it was introduced in ancient Rome where they say by covering the brides face she would be hidden from evil spirits, whereas the medieval era believed that it was a symbol of modesty, purity and chastity with protection from any evil eyes. Another story is that it was arranged marriages that introduced the veil and that once they had wedded their wife the veil was lifted after the ceremony to prevent any grooms changing their minds.
Nowadays the veil is seen as a highlighting finishing touch to the bride’s outfit. With many different lengths and types to choose from, many brides nowadays opt to not wear the veils over the face (the blusher). Wearing your wedding dress with a veil is a very personal choice. You choose what you are happy in and feel comfortable with, after all you are the star of the show on one of the biggest days of your life!
