Bridal Wear good luck gifts

January 11th, 2012

Before and on your wedding day it is likely that you will be given some bridal wear good luck gifts from some of your guests. It is a way of them being able to share their best wishes with you. These gifts have a long history of being given to wish health and happiness, and a long fulfilling marriage.

You will have probably seen other brides in their wedding dresses carrying silver horseshoes decorated with flowers, ribbons and lace. Horseshoes have been long regarded as a symbol of good luck, originally seen to ward off evil spirits whilst bringing health and fortune. Most horseshoes are made of iron which is known as a lucky metal and the crescent moon shape is thought to be a sign of prosperity.

A traditional gift is a sixpence coin. This originates from the well known rhyme “Something old, something new, something  borrowed, something blue and a silver sixpence in her shoe.” It is believed that if a bride wears each item from the rhyme then in turn would have a lasting marriage and have good health and wealth. Originally coming from Scotland where a groom would place a sixpence in his shoe for good luck, it is now the bride who puts a coin into her wedding dress shoes in hope for long lasting luck and love.

A wooden spoon is another good luck charm that you may be presented with. It was traditional for a woman to be given a handmade, yet beautifully carved wooden spoon by the man who had fallen in love with her. This was to show his love and devotion to her, and if the woman kept the spoon it revealed that she felt the same way about him. If the spoon was sent back then he understood that the feelings were not mutual. Wedding spoons are now given as gifts as a representation of the commitment between the newlyweds.

Wedding Ceremony Music

January 9th, 2012

You take a deep breath and beam with an overwhelming mix of emotions as you’re making your grand entrance in your wedding dress to walk down the aisle and marry the partner of your dreams to your specially chosen piece of music. Music has an incredible influence to alter someone’s mood and create emotion. It sets the tone and builds an atmosphere, therefore it is vital to get it right and choose something that is personal to you as a couple. So what will your music be? Will you opt for the traditional Wagner’s ”Here Comes the Bride” or “Canon in D” by Pachelbel or are you looking for a more modern contemporary track such as “Come Away with Me” sung sweetly by Norah Jones.

The type of ceremony you are having will reflect your choice of music. If you are have a religious wedding then you can include hymns and secular music. It is best to check with your officiating minister beforehand but usually you would require some music as the guests arrive and take their seats which is happy and unobtrusive. The song in which the bride is to walk down the aisle to, ensuring it is long enough to last the entire procession, and something that is played whilst the newlyweds sign the registrar. You will also require something uplifting as you leave the church as husband and wife. You may also choose to sing some hymns after the bride’s entrance, after the marriage ceremony and after the prayers and final blessing, as well as a sung psalm after the marriage. Civil wedding ceremonies are often shorter than a religious one, therefore you do not have as many opportunities for music. You may choose to have music playing as your guests arrive and leave and when you are signing the registrar. Your ceremony cannot contain any religious readings or music. If you are getting married at a licensed premise then you will have more music options. You may choose to have songs played at points similar to a church service but do get the registrar’s approval beforehand.

If you’re not sure what music to choose then listen to some CDs together, look at lists of the most popular played tracks over the past decades or alternatively if you have a friend or family member who can sing then why not ask them to participate in your music selection. If your wedding is based on a certain theme then you could choose a song to fit in with this. Whatever you choose ensure you enjoy it on the day, as your chosen tracks will help keep the memories alive every time you hear it again in the future.

Celebrity Wedding Dresses – Holly Branson

January 7th, 2012

Holly Branson, daughter of  multi billionaire tycoon Sir Richard Branson married her childhood sweetheart Fred Andrews on the privately owned and recently fire-savaged Caribbean Necker Island.

The beautiful blonde bride looked striking in an elegant ivory wedding dress that was designed exclusively for her by Australian Bridal Wear designer Jane Hill. Her A line wedding gown featured a delicate overlay with straps and was complimented with a matching veil that was sat in the back of her loosely curled hair. The look was completed with a pair of dazzling Jimmy Choos and a classic posy of cream roses. Her ship broker husband opted to wear a navy tailcoat and contrasting pin striped trousers, finished off with a pink tie.

As they kissed at the end of the ceremony there was rapturous applause from the guests and lots of tears from the bride’s father and 26 year old brother Sam. During her interview with Hello! magazine Holly said “Dad cries at anything, even adverts. My brother, Sam, was even more emotional – he was literally uncontrollably crying. Blubbing his eyes out.”

Although a huge fire destroyed the Great House on the famous island back in August the couple were under no disillusion that their wedding was to still go ahead. Talking to the magazine, she said: “Because it is such a dramatic environment, you don’t get a sad feeling on the ruins, it’s more of an uplifting, wow, a feeling of celebration and a time to reflect. It’s definitely our special place and it looked absolutely beautiful, even thought it was still very rustic – there are still piles of rubble – it was dramatic. And it’s stunning because you’re at the top of a hill so there are incredible panoramic views.”

Even though on the wedding day a tropical storm hit the island the guests were not going to let anything get in the way. When a boat ferrying guests from another island was unable to moor due to high waves they dived into the sea and swam to shore! The wedding had some royal attendees – Princess Beatrice and her sister Eugenie, choosing to decline the Queen’s pre- Christmas lunch invitation.
