Winter wedding themes

November 23rd, 2011

By choosing to have your wedding in the winter gives you the perfect opportunity to have a theme that you most certainly wouldn’t be able to pull off in any other season. Be it a Christmas themed spectacular, a picturesque winter wonderland, classic black and white affair or a fairy tale bridal dream, your winter wedding will be an enchanting one your guests will remember. Discuss with your partner the colours and styles that suit your personalities.

Transport your guests into a winter wonderland. White linen everywhere with with artificial snow with a scattering of candles and fairy lights. Accessorise your wedding dress with a fur lined cloak or feathered shrug. Think snow queen and opt for a crown tiara! You could carry a bouquet of crystal flowers or a simple white bouquet of flowers. Flower girls could throw white petals, glitter or gems as you walk down the aisle and the bridesmaids carry lanterns. Adding a dash of colour such as an icy silver, pink or blue creates a contrast against the white backdrop. Painted twigs in long tall vases,  candles of different heights on a mirror or simple white long stemmed flowers make stunning centre pieces. Ice sculptures, white chocolate fountains, snowflakes and icicles all help create a Narnia illusion.

Black and white themed weddings are timeless. You can choose for it to be as simple or as extravagant as your individual styles desire. Why not go for a black wedding dress and have your bridesmaids and the groom in white. Using a monochrome design throughout the decor in your wedding looks very effective.

Christmas weddings filled with the traditional greens and reds with a hint of gold look beautiful. Pine Cones and mistletoe, baubles and fairy lights, Christmas is such an inspiring time of year that the option are virtually endless! You could opt to have a red wedding dress, complete with a velvet hooded fur trimmed cloak. Poinsettia flowers and holly or pine cone wreaths with a candle in the middle make a simple yet effective centrepiece. Favours of little presents, a personalised bauble or candy canes finish the look. Not forgetting several Christmas tress and twinkling fairy lights!

With the vast majority of weddings taking place in the Spring or Summer, your Winter wedding will stand out and be an experience your guests will treasure.

Choosing your Winter Wedding colour theme

November 18th, 2011

The wedding day is all set to be a wintery affair, so now you need to decide on your colour theme. In order to ensure the colour works successfully it is a good idea to select something that works well with the season you are marrying in. The colours you choose will determine the mood and style of the wedding day itself as they will be incorporated into everything from your flowers, bridal wear, the cake and even the detail on your invitations.

With such a huge array of colours to choose from it can be a bit daunting as to where to begin. Think about where your wedding ceremony is taking place. As you are having a winter wedding it is likely that for the comfort of you and your guests the large majority is going to be centered indoors. This means that you don’t necessarily have to reflect the cold weather outside when choosing your colours.

What colours are your personal favourites? What colours does your husband to be like? It may be that he would like the colours of his football team! How do different colours make you feel? The types of flowers you want to use may have an influence on your colour choice so it may be worth researching what is available during winter. Depending on how many bridesmaids you are having you may want to take into consideration their skin coloruing as some will look fabulous in certain colours whilst other will look not so great in them.

Rich colours look fantastic for a winter wedding. Midnight blues, striking purples, crimson reds, burnt oranges and forest greens create instant elegance. Adding a metal, such as silver, gold or copper adds a striking contrast against the colour palette and looks particularly beautiful for the evening ceremony. They will add a magical ambiance with candlelight creating a warm cosy atmosphere.

With a winter wedding you have the opportunity to be more wild, dramatic and indulge in fantasy. Will you go for a Narnia inspired wedding day, full of ice blue, frosty white and dazzling silver, or perhaps a nostalgic day filled with warm rich deep greens, striking reds and shiny gold. Or if you’re feeling minimalism is the way forward how about a black and white themed wedding day – James Bond style. Whatever colours you choose the next step forward is to track down your dream dress. Come and visit us and find ’The One’ at the Wedding Dress Factory Outlet. We look forward to meeting with you soon and finding out what colours you have decided on for your special day.

Choosing to have a Winter Wedding

November 14th, 2011

Winter weddings are incredibly romantic. Cold crisp air, crackling open fires, clear star filled nights and if you’re lucky a sprinkling of that fluffy white stuff called snow! There are many advantages of having your wedding in the Winter. Discuss with your fiance the pros and cons as to whether a winter wedding is right for you.

As a winter wedding is out of season the overall cost could be substantially lower. From shopping around you are likely to find some very good deals. Many wedding venues prices are up to half the price in the winter compared to that in the summer. For a couple on a budget having a winter wedding may be a way of fulfilling all your dreams in one. You will possibly get more choice of venues and locations due to winter weddings being less popular and they may even be discounted (to match your discounted designer wedding dress bought from the Wedding Dress Factory Outlet, of course!).

There are many beautiful and stunning themes and colour choices. A spring or summer wedding is often associated with cheerful bright colours. Having your wedding in the winter opens up a complete rainbow spectum of options, especially darker shades of purples, greens, reds and blues. Many couples find choosing the wedding favours tricky, but there are so many wonderful creations that your guests would adore during this season (personalised baubles are perfect near Christmas).

As winter weddings are less common it is more likely that you will not need to work the date around other peoples’ weddings and may find that your guests have less commitments and so will be free to attend. Not many people will have attended a winter wedding before so this will make your wedding unique, memorable and really stand out from the crowd.

And then there is the weather. When a bride comes into us to choose her wedding dress something she wishes that she could book yet can’t is mother nature herself. With a winter wedding you already know it’s going to be cold and is likely to be wet, but there’s always the hope of snow. Imagine waking up on your wedding morning with a blanket of snow outside, it would fuel the excitment of your spectacular winter wonderland wedding day!

Winter Honeymoons

October 5th, 2011

As we are coming up to the winter months, we know there will be many of you making last minute preparations for your winter weddings. Hopefully you’ve remembered to buy a cape or a bolero to wear over your wedding dress to keep you warm enough! Many newly weds choose to jet off to the sun, and that is particularly tempting when it’s grey and dreary here, but there are other options. Here are a few of the most popular winter honeymoon destinations, whether you are looking for sunshine or snow.

Sunshine Destinations:

Argentina - Hit Buenos Aires to experience the vibrant street performers, shopping for leather goods and sight seeing, or head out of the city and stay on an Estanca in the Mendoza wine country to ride horses and sample some wine.

India – If you want to see some sights and absorb some culture, while also having the chance to sunbathe on some beautiful beaches or spend some time in an ayurvedic spa, then India has it all. The winter is the perfect time to visit Jaipur’s Pink City, or Agra’s Taj Mahal as it will be cooler. Then head south to Goa or Kerala for some relaxation.

Cooler Climes:

Norway – Visit the North Cape in the Arctic Circle to see the Northern Lights and the Polar Museum. The scenery is just breathtaking, with mountains and fjords as well as some pretty impressive architecture, but don’t expect much daylight between October and March!

Jackson, Wyoming – Why not share your honeymoon with 5,000 elk in the National Elk Refuge?! You can see them up close during a snowshoe safari or sleigh ride. A luxury ski lodge with heated pool and a fireplace will bring some romance to your honeymoon.

Winter Weddings

While it seems that summer is just getting started, for those brides planning winter weddings now is a good time to start thinking about your dress. Here are a few helpful pointers;

Winter is a great time of year to consider wearing a coloured bridal gown as rich colours work beautifully against the dim early evening light. Think about deep reds, subtle golds and, for the brave, rich chocolate.

Consider the type of venue you are getting married in. Churches can be very cold in the winter months and you don’t want to be shivering as you walk down the aisle! You may want to consider a gorgeous long coat to match your gown, or simply a bolero jacket or wrap. Fake fur wraps look gorgeous on photos. If your ceremony and reception are being held in the same venue, you don’t necessarily need to go to the expenditure of a jacket or wrap to keep warm as you are likely to be inside for the majority of the day.

Consider the kind of fabric that your dress will be made from. Some silks may be marked by raindrops so if you are planning on having a silk wedding dress when the risk of rain is high, make sure that your dress is fully protected from the weather – some brides even go to the trouble of covering themselves in bin liners to protect their dress from the car to the ceremony if the weather is really bad!

Choosing your ideal dress can be difficult enough without having to consider some of these practicalities but you can be assured that all of the staff at The Wedding Dress Factory Outlet will be able to give you knowledgeable and honest advice to assist you with choosing your wedding gown.

We look forward to seeing you at The Wedding Dress Factory Outlet.
